The parents and carers of our students completed a Tell Them From Me survey where we sort suggestions for future focus in student wellbeing and learning. In following up requests and recommendations from parents and carers the school has researched and pursued training in the wellbeing program Smiling Mind. Two staff members were trained to lead the implementation of the program. All staff were trained in teaching the program. An Action Team of eleven staff members have been working behind the scenes to prepare the teaching and learning resources and to link the program to our Pagewood PS Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Scope and Sequence.
The first attachment is a Parent Guide to the program which has been produced by Smiling Mind. It provides the philosophy of the program, research behind the program, details about accessing the app and how families at home can utilise the work completed at school. In the information provided it discusses the homework the students are required to complete as part of the program. The Action Team has decided to complete the homework journal at school rather than at home so that we as a staff can thoroughly evaluate the program.
The second attachment is an overview of the twenty topics of the program covered in a calendar year. Each topic is being covered over a two-week cycle. If you ask your child they should be able to tell you which topic they are covering in class so that you as a family can utilise the corresponding resources on the Smiling Mind App. Otherwise just start at the first topic and make your way through at your own pace.
